Women are considered a minority because women do not share the same power, privileges, rights and opportunities as men. Women who are of color face even more challenges trying to obtain equality. ALL women must work together in order to bring change to the world of equality.

Racism
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, racism is defined: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

From the mid-1960's to the early 1970's was the era between the Civil Rights and Feminist movement. Black women were in quite a different spectrum than other races and gender. Black women who were a part of the feminist movement were rejected by white women and in turn affected black women as a whole. From my understanding black women chose race over gender issues for a period of time because white women did not support or defend the ideas of black women.

Racism pertains to all races: Hispanic, Asian, White, and Black persons. There are many organizations for each race as well as feminist organizations that are very prominent to the times.
Feminism
Merriam- Webster defines feminism as: the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

Society must realize that being a feminist is not about being a "man-hater" it is about advocating for women's rights and equality in social, cultural, personal, economic rights.

One of the big topics today is the right to maternity leave: The current maternity leave policy in the United States is 12 weeks unpaid leave. Most of the time women will return to work earlier than expected to have income. The problem with this is that there is hardly any mother-newborn connection/bonding. Women are being forced to find childcare for their child/children, which in turn becomes a financial issue.
